I am finally reading Crisis of Conscience and Awakening...

i finally obtained these books from a friend.

they won't make any difference about how i feel about the religion now because i already know what i know and have so for at least seven years.

i started reading the first chapter or so of c of c and was horrified about what went on in the beginning of the religion and how young people were told not to marry, etc.

the interesting thing to me is that after all he lived and saw, he was still basically a CONviNcED beLIEveR.

Theocraptic Misery "School(??)"

they call it a school.

this is where you do not graduate.

but is the so-called theocratic ministry school really a school?.

tis possible that those skills taught by the school were the very ones that got the able minded to think their way out of the tower... once they stopped using it soley on others and did as the tower told them to... examine your own religion--- double edged sword and all.

The Bible - all heart (and kidneys), but no brains.

- the topic title is a little 'tabloid' i'll admit, but actually more literal than you'd think:.

a thought - or should i say memory - from my active jw days came to me, and that was the often mentioned 'fact' that jehovah is the god who "tries our heart and kidneys".

this was a very common expression used at meetings while i was growing up.

in looking over some of my recent posts and pm's to several of you on here, i see, (and it's been pointed out to me) that my dreamy side may be taking over.. i write this not in a defensive mode but merely as a reflection on the matter.. you are right, so many of us (and all of us, at any given time in our lives) are suffering "tangible" problems.. my heart goes out to each and every one of you and i sincerly hope your situation will reverse itself or be resolved in a positive way in the very near future.. i am not a "total flake".

i am actually pretty good to have around in a crisis.

at the drop of a hat i can clean your entire house, cook a meal for 25 and change your colostomy bag.

I think you are missing something. WHAT you believe comes from religion tradition and culture trained into you from near birth.

HOW you beleive is the set of stradegies you have adopted along the way to achieve the goals your Belief Systems have infected you with... your ideals.

WHY you believe is the part that is often ignored and skirted and questining that can alter both of the above.

the WHY is scary for most because to dig too deep causes a lot of emotional pain as there are no rational answers for a lot of it.

living in the moment is really about constantly asking the WHY of each act and assumption and stradegy...being present to all the forces moving you.

Do you think God is a Liar?

i've struggled with trying to believe in a god since i left the fold.

i've been indoctrinated by dubizm for most of my life and more and more it all seems pretty incredulous.

the latest lady liberty post about adam caused a lightbulb to go off...and i know you'll let me know if i'm wrong in my assessment.. all my life i've heard, "god cannot tell a lie" and "the bible is true.

I see GOD as the Generator Of Dreams and my dreams of reality are full of deceptions and lies and hardly anything is what it appears to be...so my GOD is a liar (^_^)... and humans made in the image and likeness of GOD are liars by nature.

an ethnobotanist in santa cruz, california, thinks jesus was munching magic mushrooms at the last supper.

clark heinrich says man has enjoyed the psychedelic effects of mushrooms since thousands of years before christ -- and figured the king of kings probably turned on as well.

in fact, he thinks jesus was high on a psychedelic 'shroom known as "fly agaric" which was hailed for its taste as well as its trips.

btw, while that seems ludicrist on the face of it, it was recently demonstrated that some greek myths were actually alchemic formulas and when followed produced results the myths predicted... so to encode magic mushroom use in a similar manner may not be so far fetched.

there is a book out there, that actually claimed that Jesus Christ was a symbol for the magic mushroom itself and not an actual person. I first saw it in a public library in 1990's so I am sure its atleast 20 years old

Who really wrote the bible

i was always taught when i joined jws that moses wrote all of the book of genesis.in the all scripture inspired book on page 13 verse 3 it says:.

jehovah god is the author of the bible but he inspired moses to write the book of genesis.from where did moses get the information he recorded in genesis?

some could have been recieved directly by divine revelation and some under the direction of holy spirit.. verse 5 says- there is no question as to who wrote genesis.. well yes there was, in the watchtower magazine 1959 10/1 [ could be 1/10, depending on which country your in] called -finding the truth that makes men free [ taken from the watchtower program 2004] section 15 has this to say:.

there is a book called WHO WROTE THE BIBLE and it reads like a detective story and is very interesting.

it seems that Genesis and many other parts of "moses" were written around 800bce and Deuteronomy seems to be by the very same author of Jeremiah and chronocles or maybe it was kings...

as a JW I always doubted JW teaching that Deuteronomy was written mostly by Moses but the last chapter AFTER HIS DEATH was tacked on by another hand, likely Joshua...because if you read the story its the same style from beginning to ending. even bible authors change styles

Genesis is also littered with reference to things indicating that a king over israel EXISTED at the time of writing... thus after 1000bce and no where near the supposed time of moses circa 1500 bce.

evidence exists internally in the bible that Ezra is the one who took several powerful family myths and wove them into one story after the exile from babylon and even added a few things of his own... like the festival of booths... nehemiah gives that one away saying everyone realized that no one had ever celebrated that one for the last 500 years.

this explains genesis and other mosaic books being littered with double stories which often contradict rather than compliment. like the two creation stories, the two noah's arc stories, etc.
